I'm always drawn to characters on the periphery of someone else's story: the people who are mentioned in passing; of whom you only get a glimpse. In the archive research for a lost Ben Jonson play, there was one reference to an 'unnamed maid' who lived in the household and discovered the body of her master, Page of Plymouth. So, I gave her a voice...
